and Approach
Therapy is a unique relationship in which the therapist and patient work
collaboratively to relieve pain and distress, to solve problems, to grow
and feel stronger, and to heal. It is an emotionally intimate process
that requires openness, vulnerability, and courage. While various theories
of practice and development inform my work, each therapy relationship
has its own unique facets. Each person who seeks therapy has a particular
constellation of needs, goals, concerns, and life experiences, and I adapt
my approach to each patient accordingly. Growth and healing emerge from
a combination of shared understanding and insight, mutual compassion and
encouragement, curiosity and exploration, and finally, mindfulness and
hard work.
